Big Theatre For Little People

Dear Educators,

As you may already know, this year promises to be an exciting time for Geva as we celebrate our thirty-fifth anniversary season. As part of the festivities, our Nextstage will host the year-long Rochester TheatreFest. Rochester TheatreFest will allow theatre groups from around the Greater Rochester area a unique opportunity to perform their own shows on the Nextstage, and we look forward to a vibrant and diverse showcase of work. However, while the TheatreFest utilizes the Nextstage Geva will not be able to produce Big Theatre for Little People during 2007-08 season.

While this means that our calendar may look a little different next year, the mission in our education department remains the same: we are committed to nurturing curiosity and wonder in audiences of all ages, and we strive to reach all the members of our community with opportunities to experience theatre. Our department remains available to help you to plan experiences with Geva, whether a visit to the building or a one-on-one session with a member of our staff or guest artist who can provide a window on the work we do.

Additionally, this year our Artist Educators will introduce exciting new in-class workshops specially designed for young audiences. We will bring theatre-making tools, creative communication and artistic expression right into your classroom in the form of a storytelling workshop geared to students in grades 4-6 – for more information, please contact Kathryn Moroney, Associate Director of Education at (585) 232-1366 ext. 3058. (Stay tuned for an update on this offering at the start of fall!) And of course our annual Mainstage production of A Christmas Carol is a magical theatre experience for all ages.

Sharing theatre with your schools and young people is fundamental to our mission and our future. It is our privilege to be part of the conversation in your classrooms, and we look forward to continuing the dialogue during this anniversary season and beyond. Please stay in touch with us about your interests and dreams for your students and their explorations throughout the year. We’ll do the same.

All the best from Geva’s education department,

Skip Greer
