ALISON BANKS (Esther Jane) is thrilled to be returning to Geva Theatre for her second appearance as Esther Jane in A Christmas Story. She has most recently been seen in Once Upon a Mattress (Lady-In-Waiting) and appeared on a commercial for WXXI. Alison is twelve years old and is a sixth grader at Barker Road Middle School in Pittsford. In addition to theatre, she loves to hang out with her friends, read, and play sports. Alison would like to give a big thank you to her mom, dad, twin brother, and the rest of her family for all their love and support through the “millions” of rehearsals and shows!
CHASE BOSS (Standby for Randy) makes his Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. Chase is a third-grader at Thornell Road Elementary School and the son of Jackie Orrego Boss of Pittsford. Previous credits include the role of Page in The Nutcracker with Rochester City Ballet (2006 and 2007). Chase’s interests include dance, flag football, violin and Cub Scouts. Chase began his training at Cobblestone Crossing where he played various supporting roles as thugs in basement productions of Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and A Chorus Line. He has also served as key grip in “What’s up?...so random…” When Chase is not acting he is chasing his sisters and cousins with a stick.
GAVIN FLOOD (Ralphie) is delighted to return to Geva Theatre Center this holiday season He is honored to work under the direction of Mark Cuddy and Melissa Rain Anderson once again. Gavin appeared in Geva Theatre Center’s production of A Christmas Carol (Turkey Boy), GCYT's Willy Wonka (Mrs. Gloop), and STAGES' Fiddler on the Roof (Mendel). In addition to acting, Gavin enjoys singing, biking, reading, playing with his sister Adelaide, and dreaming of the day he will drive a car. He hopes his future includes Broadway, being a pediatrician, running for political office, owning a car dealership and meeting his idols Chesley B "Sully" Sullenberger and Robert Ballard. Gavin, age 11, is a sixth-grader at Allendale Columbia School where he is a member of the student council, chorus, and community service club. He sends his love to his Mom, Dad, the Laskey and Flood families, and thanks to Cara D'Emanuele, Klem North, and my Webster neighbors. Thank you to all of Allendale Columbia for supporting me in this production!
MAIA GUEST (Mother) is delighted to make her Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. She recently appeared as Feste in Twelfth Night at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, and on the PBS specials based on the production. She co-adapted and starred in the world premiere adaptation of James Baldwin's landmark novel Giovanni's Room at the Drill Hall in London. Other roles include Mina in Dracula at Capitol Rep, Sarah in Rendition in Damascus at the Depot Theater, Penny in Coyote Ugly at Actors Shakespeare Company. Ms. Guest was a cast member of the VH1 series “ILL-ustrated,” and the internet series “Kung Fu Jimmy Chow” and “The Superficial Friends.”
BRIGITT MARKUSFELD (Miss Shields) returns to the Geva Theatre Center stage after most recently appearing in Our Town. Other Geva credits include Smell of the Kill, House and Garden, The Wier, Stop Kiss, The Triumph of Love, A Girl’s Life, The Illusion, Picasso at the Lapin Agile and The Comedy of Errors. Regional credits include Richard III and Rumors with the Sacramento Theatre Company, I Remember Mama at A.C.T., On the Verge at Marin Theatre Company, The Tempest and The Comedy of Errors at the Valley Shakespeare Festival, Way of the World and Blood Wedding at A Noise Within and The Taming of the Shrew and Country Wife at the Grove Shakespeare Festival. Ms. Markusfeld has also appeared in television and radio commercials. TV credits include “Picket Fences,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Tour of Duty,” and “Second Chances.”
JORDAN McNEESE (standby for Ralphie) makes his Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. Jordan’s love of acting started at a very young age, performing regularly for a special audience of his parents, grandparents, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is very grateful for this opportunity to perform in this year’s production of A Christmas Story. Jordan is even more excited for this being his first performance as it is his father’s favorite Christmastime movie. He would like to thank his parents, for their sacrifices they are making to have him be part of this play. He would especially like to thank his brothers for allowing their Christmas celebrations be put on hold this year. He also wants to thanks his grandparents for always being willing to watch one of his made-up home productions - without complaining.
MICHAEL MOTKOWSKI (Schwartz) is thrilled to return to Geva Theater for his second season in A Christmas Story. His stage credits include A Christmas Story (Schwartz), Wizard of Oz on Tour (Munchkin/Winkie), RCT’s Beauty & The Beast (Ensemble), Neighborhood Acting Company’s Ragtime (Edgar), STAGES HSM2 (Zeke), STAGES Mulan (Yao), and RBTL’s Summer Stars. Michael is a seventh grader at Bay Trail Middle School and enjoys playing baseball, volleyball, tennis and bowling. Michael would like to thank Cara D’Emanuele for acting and vocal instruction and his mom and dad for their love and support.
JOHNATHAN MUELLER (Flick) is excited to make his Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. He is eleven and a sixth grader at Spry Middle School in Webster where he plays tuba in the band and string bass in the orchestra and jazz band. He also participates in Science Olympiad. Johnathan has performed in two Webster Schroeder High School musicals. He played Will Rogers Jr. in Will Rogers Follies in 2007 and also played Chip in Beauty and the Beast this past April. Johnathan is the oldest of six siblings and enjoys spending time outside playing, swimming and riding his bike and ATV.
KYLE MUELLER (Randy) is thrilled to be making his Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. Kyle is eight years old and attends State Road Elementary school in Webster where he plays baritone in the band, sings in chorus and is on the Math Olympiad team. Kyle enjoys gymnastics and qualified for the competitive team at the Gymnastics Training Center in Penfield. Kyle has performed in two Webster Schroeder High School musicals. He played Freddy Rogers in Will Rogers Follies in 2007 and played Chip in Beauty and the Beast in April. Kyle entertains his five siblings with his flips, twists and funny antics.
WILLIAM PARRY (Ralph) makes his Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. Mr. Parry originated roles in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George and Passion, both of which were filmed for PBS; Into the Light; The Leaf People and Agamemnon at Lincoln Center; Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band; the original Jesus Christ Superstar and Rockabye Hamlet, directed by Gower Champion. He understudied Richard Burton and Richard Harris in Camelot on Broadway, the national tour and a televised special for HBO. He also appeared on Broadway in Gypsy with Bernadette Peters. Other NY credits include Assassins at Playwrights Horizons, Take Me Along at Irish Repertory Theatre; Dessa Rose at Lincoln Center and The Knife, Cymbeline, Dispatches and Road Show by Weidman and Sondheim – all at the Public Theater. National tours include A Few Good Men and Titanic as Capt. E.J. Smith. Among some 35 regional productions favorites include Saint Joan, Biloxi Blues, Arturo Ui, The Rainmaker, Time and Again, The Gig, Pure Confidence and most recently, The Fantasticks at the Long Wharf Theatre. Film and television credits include In & Out, Domestic Disturbance, “The Pretender,” and Law & Order and two seasons on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”
SEAN RYAN (Standby for Flick / Schwartz / Scut) is excited to be in his first production at Geva Theatre. He is a 7th grader at Barker Road in Pittsford. Sean is twelve years old and has been in over thirteen productions. His recent credits include Once Upon a Mattress at both STAGES (Jester) and Pittsford (Minstrel). Also Alice in Wonderland (Troubadour), Beauty and the Beast (Chip) and The Music Man (Quartet) all in Pittsford. Sean would like to thank his theatre coach, Laura Jean Diekmann, for all her help, Tim Dickerson, for inspiring him to start acting and his parents and sister Kylie, for their love and support.
REMI SANDRI (The Old Man) returns to Geva Theatre Center where he has previously appeared in Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure Tuesdays With Morrie, A Chorus Line, That Was Then, Camelot, 1776, House and Garden, The Importance of Being Earnest, Twelve Angry Men and My Fair Lady. Mr. Sandri has worked with theatres throughout the country and some favorite productions include Three Days of Rain, Lonely Planet, Pericles, Journey to the West, The Grapes of Wrath, A Flea in Her Ear, The Mystery of Irma Vep, Violet, Macbeth, Gross Indecency, Children of a Lesser God, Art, and Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me. Television work includes “Law & Order: C.I.,” “Conviction,” and “Deadline.” For W.S.
MATT SHILL (Scut Farkas) makes his Geva Theatre Center debut in A Christmas Story. He is a thirteen year-old eighth grader at BRMS. The youngest of three children, his interests vary from a true love of music to a passion for football. Matt has taught himself to play the drums, piano, electric and acoustic guitars. His six year football career has landed him several championships and his favorite football position is defensive tackle. Matt’s other passion is acting and he has enjoyed this craft through the wonderful program at BRMS. His favorite plays have been Oliver! and The Princess and the Pea. He thanks his family for their unending support, especially his big brother, Mike, who has helped him with all of his auditions. He also thanks his friends for making him laugh and his teachers for their patience.
ALANA SILBER (Helen) makes her Geva Theatre Center debut with A Christmas Story and she is extremely happy and honored to be working with such a talented cast! Some other shows Alana has been involved with are Footloose (Cowgirl Barb), Annie (Annie), Madeline's Christmas (Madeline), and many more. Alana enjoys reading, writing, and seeing friends. She would like to thank her loving family, her best friends, and Cara D’ Emanuele (her wonderful vocal coach) for seeing her through everything!
ALIZABETH YORK (Standby for Esther Jane) feels especially blessed to be returning to Geva Theatre Center this year. She was delighted to play Tiny Tim and Want in the 2006 and 2007 productions of Geva’s A Christmas Carol. In addition to Geva, she has been seen in RCT’s production of Number the Stars and Beauty and the Beast. She enjoyed the roles of Munchkin and Winkie in the Rochester cast of The Wizard of Oz at RBTL. She has also been seen as Young Cosette in McQuaid’s production of Les Misérables, Camille in MJT Stages’ Madeline’s Christmas, and Small Alice in GCYT’s Alice in Wonderland. Other favorite roles include Bielke in Fiddler on the Roof, Duchess in Aristocats, Mowgli in Jungle Book, and JoJo in Seussical. She is honored to study with Cara D’Emanuele, Sandy Stramonine School of Dance, Linda Goebel and John Barthelmes. She sends hugs and a big thank you to family, friends, and Geva!
ANNALEIGH YORK (Standby for Helen) is thrilled to return to the Geva stage where she has been seen in A Christmas Carol as Fan and as the Beggar Child. She has also appeared with RBTL in the touring production of The Wizard of Oz (Munchkin/Winkie). Other credits include RCT’s Beauty and The Beast and Oliver (Orphan/Fagin’s Gang); MJT Stages’ Madeline’s Christmas (Madeline), Fiddler on the Roof (Sphrintze), and Pippi Longstocking (Annika); and GCYT’s Willy Wonka (Charlie), Seussical (Mayzie), and Oklahoma! (Ado Annie). She is a current host of WXXI’s Healthy You television series. Annaleigh is a seventh grader at Gananda Middle School where she was delighted and very thankful to play the title role in their production of Annie. She is honored to receive vocal and stage training from Cara D’Emanuele and dance instruction from the Sandy Stramonine School of Dance and Linda Goebel. Annaleigh is extremely grateful to Mr. Mark Cuddy, Ms. Melissa Rain Anderson and Geva for this wonderful opportunity!
PHILIP GRECIAN (Playwright) began his show business career by hiring out as a ventriloquist and magician at the age of four. By 15 he had written a three-act comedy which was produced at a local theater. At the age of 16 he was founding director for a city-funded community theater. Two years later he was asked, without audition, to be a part of the Creede Colorado Repertory Theatre, where he spent a season acting and writing. He continues to maintain a connection with Creede Repertory, where his plays have been produced and where he has returned as a guest performer. After touring the Midwest as Androcles in Androcles and the Lion, he returned to the community theater he had founded, remaining there as artistic/managing director and resident playwright for six years; he resigned in 1976 in order to create a professional dinner theater where he served as producer and artistic director. After establishing a strong financial base for the new theater, he left to work as a writer/director in film, video and audio production. In 1994, Grecian became the founding director/playwright for a theater company which mounts an annual production of his adaptation of In His Steps, based upon Charles Sheldon's best-selling 19th-century novel. His adaptation of A Christmas Carol has become an annual tradition in many communities around the United States, and his radio dramatization of Dracula!, based on his stage play, and syndicated for a time on radio stations across the country, has come full circle and is now a staged radio production, complete with an onstage sound effects crew. It is the first of several staged radio dramas he has written. Other plays include his widely popular The Velveteen Rabbit and the official stage adaptation of the motion picture A Christmas Story ("You'll shoot your eye out"), which is produced annually by scores of professional, educational and community theater companies throughout the English-speaking world. His plays The Dragon of Nitt and Lion and the Lyre have been translated and performed in Russia.
MARK CUDDY (Director) is in his 15th season as Artistic Director of Geva Theatre Center. Last season he directed Fences, Sweeney Todd and A Christmas Story. Mr. Cuddy is well known for his staging of premieres, contemporary comedies and musical theatre. Among his Geva Theatre Center productions have been the Mainstage and Nextstage productions of Pride and Prejudice (which he also co-adapted);Bad Dates; Our Town; Tuesdays With Morrie; Urinetown; Splitting Infinity; Vigil; A Chorus Line; Hamlet;, That Was Then (American premiere); Convenience (world premiere musical); 1776; Proof; the world premiere of Thornton Wilder’s Theophilus North which was also seen at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.; The Miser; the East Coast premieres of both House and Garden; Quilters; Art; Famous Orpheus (world premiere musical) with Garth Fagan Dance; Every Good Boy Deserves Favor with the RPO; Golf With Alan Shepard; Picasso at the Lapin Agile and State of the Union. Prior to his tenure at Geva Theatre Center, Mr. Cuddy directed a number of world and American classics while Artistic Director of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival and Sacramento Theatre Company.
MELISSA RAIN ANDERSON (Associate Director) is happy to be back at Geva working on this great new holiday tradition. Melissa’s directing credits include Gregg Coffin’s new musical rightnexttome at both The B Street Theater in CA, and The Human Race Theatre in OH, as well as his Five Course Love at Stages Repertory Theatre in Houston, TX. For Nazareth College Melissa most recently directed Side by Side by Sondheim as well as Falsettos, Where’s Charley? and Nunsense. Locally, she choreographed RCT’s production of Seussical and directed the cabaret Roads Traveled at Geva’s Nextstage which went on to play The Duplex in NYC. Earlier this year, Melissa assistant directed Amadeus at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and La Bohème at Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Melissa lives in New York City with her husband, Jim Poulos.
ROB KOHARCHICK (Scenic Design) returns to Geva Theatre Center where past designs include Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, Doubt, American Buffalo, Key West, Lobby Hero, and Pyretown. Other credits include designs for: the Indiana Repertory Theatre, Weston Playhouse of Vermont, the Cincinnati Playhouse, the Cleveland Playhouse and the Contemporary American Theatre of Columbus. Mr. Koharchik is an Assistant Professor of Design at Butler University and a founding member of ShadowApe Theatre Company.
B. MODERN (Costume Designer) returns to Geva Theatre Center for her thirteenth season. She is an Associate Artist and has designed numerous productions including The House in Hydesville; A Christmas Story, A Christmas Carol; Dial M for Murder; That Was Then; Death of a Salesman; Smell of the Kill; The Brighton Beach Trilogy; Billy Bishop Goes to War; Proof; Ghosts; The Miser; The Portrait, the Wind, the Chair; Two Gentlemen of Verona; The Importance of Being Earnest; Twelve Angry Men; My Fair Lady; The Illusion and The Comedy of Errors. Ms. Modern is also an Associate Artistic Director at Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Other theatre credits include productions for Oregon Shakespeare Festival; San Jose Repertory Theatre; Indiana Repertory Theatre; The Globe Theatres, San Diego; Repertory Theatre of St. Louis; The Magic Theatre; TheatreWorks, Georgia Shakespeare Festival; Berkeley Repertory Theatre; Seattle Repertory Theatre; Syracuse Stage; Idaho Shakespeare Festival and Sacramento Theatre Company. Opera credits include productions at Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Opera San Jose. Ms. Modern shares a home and studio in Santa Cruz, California with two cantankerous cats.
KIRK BOOKMAN (Lighting Designer) returns to Geva Theatre Center with this production of A Christmas Story. New York credits include What Then at the Ohio Theater, The Cook at Intar Theatre 53, Recent Tragic Events at Playwrights Horizons (starring Heather Graham) and Shanghai Moon at Drama Department (starring Charles Bush). Work for the National Actors Theatre on Broadway includes The Sunshine Boys (starring Jack Klugman and Tony Randall), The Gin Game (starring Julie Harris and Charles Durning), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Right You Are. Work for the Irish Rep includes Bedbound, Playboy of the Western World, Eclipsed, and two productions directed by Tony Walton: The Importance of Being Earnest and Major Barbara. Other New York productions include Mondo Drama, Havana is Waiting, Force Continuum, My One Good Nerve (starring Ruby Dee), The Green Heart at Manhattan Theatre Club, The Shawl, Rude Entertainment, The Book of Liz (David and Amy Sedaris), Les MIZrahi (Isaac Mizrahi), Hope is the Thing with Feathers, As Thousands Cheer, and June Moon. Regionally, Mr. Bookman’s work includes more than sixty-five productions at the Cincinnati Playhouse including Sing Hallelujah! (2004), A Christmas Carol (1991-2006), Proof (2003) and The Mystery of Irma Vep (2001) and other notable theatres as Goodspeed Opera House, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Coconut Grove Playhouse, and Santa Fe Stages. Ballet credits include English National Ballet, Santiago Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet and the Kansas City Ballet. He has lit productions of Thomashefsky, Oedipus Rex and Nightingale for the San Francisco Symphony and most recently, A Flowering Tree directed by Peter Sellars.
DAN ROACH (Sound Designer) has worked on sound for numerous productions at Geva Theatre Center since 1988. Most recent productions include A Christmas Story, Doubt, Dial M for Murder, A Christmas Carol, The Underpants and 9 Parts of Desire. He studied sound at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and has been applying that knowledge to theatre over the past two decades. He always looks forward to working on shows at Geva and greatly appreciates being surrounded by the dedicated actors, designers, directors and staff that have been a hallmark of Geva productions. He currently works full-time for the Hillside Family of Agencies as their webmaster and is grateful for their flexibility in providing time to pursue his love of theatre and sound design.
JEAN GORDON RYON (Dramaturg) serves as New Plays Coordinator at Geva Theatre Center where, among other duties, she produces the Regional Writers Showcase and the Young Writers Showcase. She was dramaturg for 1776, John Bull’s Other Island, That Was Then, Shear Madness, The Underpants, and The Clean House, and she has contributed dramaturgical research and written program articles for several other productions. Ms. Ryon holds a degree in drama from Tufts University and a master’s degree in Arts Administration from Goucher College. Her most recent directing credits in the community include Grace and Glorie, Master Class, Blithe Spirit, Pride’s Crossing, and The Gin Game for Blackfriars, The Chosen and The Immigrant for JCC’s CenterStage, and for RCP’s Irish Players, Juno and the Peacock, Da, Translations, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, Waiting for Godot, The Kings of the Kilburn High Road, Dancing at Lugnasa, Faith Healer, The Hostage, and Love in the Title. Ms. Ryon is also the Artistic Director of The Geriactors, a traveling troupe of mature actors.
KIRSTEN BRANNEN (Stage Manager) celebrates her ninth season with Geva Theatre Center, over which she has stage managed Souvenir, 3 Mo’ Divas; Fences; Sweeney Todd; A Christmas Story; Ella; Pride and Prejudice; Cabaret; Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure; Urinetown, the Musical; Our Town; Dial M for Murder; Inherit the Wind; Shear Madness; The Road Home: Re-Membering America; A Chorus Line; That Was Then; Broadway Bound; Camelot; Death of a Salesman; Biloxi Blues; 1776; 36 Views; Cookin’ at the Cookery; Convenience; Flyin’ West; Hibernatus Interruptus: A Festival of New Plays and A Christmas Carol 2001-2006. She was a stage manager for nine years at PCPA Theaterfest in Santa Maria, California. At PCPA, she served as the Production Stage Manager and taught the stage management curriculum. She was a stage manager for such productions as My Fair Lady, 42nd Street, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, Gypsy, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Who’s Tommy and the World Premiere of The Daly News. Originally from Victor, she is very happy to again make her home in the Rochester area. Ms. Brannen is a graduate of Ithaca College and a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.
ELISSA MYERS & PAUL FOUQUET, CSA (Casting Directors) Mr. Fouquet, a Rochester native, is honored to be recognized as a Geva Associate Artist. This marks the 13th year of Myers’ and Fouquet’s collaboration with Geva Theatre Center. Broadway casting credits include eight shows over the past decade including the Tony-nominated Having Our Say and fifteen Off- Broadway shows. Regional casting includes six Tony Award- winning theatres including McCarter, Berkeley Repertory, Seattle, Alabama Shakespeare, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Denver Center and many more. TV/Film credits include three “Movies of the Week” (with Tyne Daly, Claire Danes, Christopher Reeve, Ed Asner and Daniel J. Travanti), five pilots and two PBS specials by Wendy Wasserstein and Terrence McNally (with Bernadette Peters, Nathan Lane, Blythe Danner, Spike Lee and Paul Sorvino), as well as the Peabody-Award winning mini-series “Liberty,” the Emmy Award-winning “Benjamin Franklin” and “John & Abigail Adams.”
